Stainless Steel Railings in Kigali: Complete Installation Guide & Prices
Stainless Steel Railings in Kigali: Complete Guide
Stainless steel railings have become the most popular choice for balconies, staircases, and terraces in Kigali's modern buildings. They combine safety, beauty, and exceptional durability. This guide covers everything you need to know before investing in a railing system.
Types of Stainless Steel Railing Systems
1. Post and Infill Systems
The most common type in Kigali. Vertical SS304 posts (typically 40Γ40mm or round 50mm) with horizontal rails and infill options: stainless cables, glass panels, or horizontal bars. Price range: RWF 85,000 β 150,000 per linear meter fully installed.
2. Glass Balustrade Systems
Frameless or semi-frameless glass panels held by SS304 base clamps or spigots. Gives a modern, open appearance. Very popular for luxury homes, hotels, and commercial buildings. Price: RWF 150,000 β 280,000 per linear meter installed (includes tempered glass).
3. Handrail Only (Wall-Mounted)
Round SS304 tube (38mm or 50mm) mounted on wall brackets. Used for staircase walls, ramps, and corridors. Simplest system. Price: RWF 45,000 β 80,000 per linear meter installed.
SS304 vs SS316: Which Grade for Rwanda?
For most applications in Kigali, SS304 is perfectly adequate. It offers excellent corrosion resistance for indoor and outdoor use in Rwanda's climate. SS316 (marine grade) is only necessary for swimming pool areas or coastal environments due to its higher chloride resistance.
The Installation Process
- Site Survey: Our team measures the area, checks the substrate (concrete, tile, wood), and designs the layout
- Fabrication: Rails and posts are cut, welded, and polished in our workshop to your exact specifications
- Core Drilling / Anchor Installation: Post bases are anchored into the slab with chemical anchors or surface-mounted brackets
- Post Installation: Posts are set plumb and level, base covers fitted
- Rail & Infill Fitting: Top rail, infill panels or cables, and handrail are fitted and secured
- Final Polish & Inspection: All welds buffed, fingerprints cleaned, safety check completed
Maintenance Tips for Kigali's Climate
- Rinse with clean water monthly β especially during dry season when dust accumulates
- Use a stainless steel cleaner (not chlorine bleach) for stubborn marks
- Check anchor points annually and re-tighten if needed
- Avoid contact with iron/carbon steel tools to prevent rust transfer staining
